HE Ambassador Wang Xiaolong called upon Hon Nanaia Mahuta, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand

On June 2, HE Ambassador Wang Xiaolong made a call on Hon Nanaia Mahuta, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand. The two sides exchanged views on China-New Zealand relations and issues of common concern.

Ambassador Wang said that China and New Zealand should take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, join hands to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and manage our differences constructively through dialogues and consultations, on the basis of mutual respect, building up the common interests and setting aside differences, and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, thereby promoting the continuous development of China-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the right direction, benefitting the two countries and the two peoples, and at the same time, making positive contribution to peace, stability and prosperity both globally and regionally. Ambassador Wang reiterated China’s position on the recent New Zealand-US joint statement and issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Xi Zang.

Ambassador Wang briefly touched on State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to South Pacific and the second China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, stressing that China maintains long-standing friendly and cooperative relations with island developing countries in the South Pacific, and has provided assistance and support for these countries to the best of its ability within the framework of South-South cooperation. The focus and purpose of the cooperation is to achieve common development. During the visit, China reached broad consensus with South Pacific island countries and achieved fruitful results. China will continue to support Pacific island partners in enhancing their capacity for economic growth, addressing challenges such as climate change and COVID, and achieving sustainable development. China is ready to continue the communication and dialogue with New Zealand and other countries and explore cooperation in this regard.
