HE Ambassador Wang Xiaolong Meets with Hon Mark Brown, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Cook Islands

On April 19 local time, HE Amb Wang Xiaolong paid a call on Hon Mark Brown, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Cook Islands, to exchange views on the bilateral relations and practical cooperation, China-Pacific Island Countries cooperation, and regional and international issues of common interest. 

The two sides highly commended the bilateral relations and the great achievements made since the establishment of diplomatic ties. Amb Wang appreciated the Cook Islands’ firm commitment to the one-China principle and reaffirmed that China will uphold the principle of mutual respect and common development, actively respond to the aspirations and needs of the island countries, explore more cooperation opportunities with both the Cook Islands and the Pacific Islands Forum, and help the island partners tackle climate change and build the capacity for sustainable development. 

Hon Brown reiterated the Cook Islands’ firm commitment to the one-China policy, appreciated China’s support to the pacific island countries over the years, and expressed the willingness to expand cooperation with China bilaterally and regionally.  

Amb Wang congratulated the Cook Islands on the latter’s assumption of the rotating chairmanship of the Pacific Islands Forum and wishes the Cook Islands all the success in hosting the relevant meetings.
