HE Ambassador Wang Xiaolong Meets with HE Ms Kairangi Samuela, New High Commissioner of Cook Islands to New Zealand

On May 8, HE Amb Wang Xiaolong met with HE Ms Kairangi Samuela, newly-arrived High Commissioner of Cook Islands to New Zealand, to exchange views on the bilateral relations, China-Pacific Island Countries cooperation, and regional and international issues of common interest. 

Ambassador Wang welcomed Ms Samuela to take office and expected to work with her and other colleagues in the High Commission to further consolidate the conduit of communication between the two countries and advance the development of the China-Cook Islands Comprehensive Strategic Partnership featuring Mutual Respect and Common Development. Ambassador Wang introduced the recent exchanges and interactions between the two sides, appreciated the Cook Islands’ firm commitment to the one-China principle and reaffirmed China’s support to the Cook Islands in chairing  the Pacific Islands Forum(PIF). china is willing to provide support in this regard within its capabilities to push forward the China-Cook Islands relations as well as the China-Pacific Islands Countries cooperation as a whole.

HE Samuela commended the progress and achievements made in bilateral cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic ties over 25 years ago, reiterated the firm commitment by Cook Islands to the one-China policy, and appreciated China’s support to the economic and social development of the Cook Islands and its hosting of the PIF meetings. HE Samuela also expressed the willingness to work together with the Chinese side to deepen exchanges and cooperation between China and the Cook Islands during her tenure.
