Ambassador Wu Xi meets with Niue Premier and attends Constitution Day celebrations

From October 16 to 23, 2018, China’s Ambassador to New Zealand, the Cook Islands and Niue, Her Excellency Wu Xi, visited Niue and attended the Constitution Day celebrations marking Niue’s 44th year of independence. Ambassador Wu met with Niue Premier Hon Sir Toke Talagi and transmitted a congratulatory letter from H.E. Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, on the occasion of Niue’s Constitution Day.

Ambassador Wu noted that China attaches great importance to China-Niue relations and appreciates Niue’s firm support for One China Policy. The relationship between China and Niue is progressing well, creating tangible benefits for the two peoples. On the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, China would like to further promote bilateral relations to bring more benefits to the two peoples and make greater contributions to regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Premier Talagi thanked Premier Li Keqiang for his congratulatory letter and asked Ambassador Wu to convey his best wishes to the Chinese leaders and the Chinese people. He spoke highly of the achievements of China-Niue relations, noting that Niue will continue to adhere to One China Principle and work with China to further advance bilateral relations.

During her visit, Ambassador Wu attended the flag-raising ceremony of Niue Constitution Day, the opening ceremony of the National Museum and the launching ceremony for Niue’s 4G network. At the national showday in Niue, Ambassador Wu made dumplings and distributed them at the Chinese booth, introducing Chinese specialties and Chinese traditional culture. The booth was well received by the local people and they appreciate it as ‘dumpling diplomacy’.
