Ambassador Wang conveyed the cordial greetings from the leaders of China to Premier Tagelagi, and reiterated China’s firm commitment to its relations with Niue. According to Ambassador Wang, this year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Niue. During the past 15 years, with the joint efforts by both sides, China-Niue relationship has been constantly scoring new progress, and brought tangible benefits to both countries and both peoples. In 2018, President Xi Jinping held a collective meeting with the leaders of the Pacific island countries, including Niue, and agreed to elevate China’s relations with the Pacific island countries to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership featuring mutual respect and common development, which also ushered China-Niue relations into a new era. The second China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which was held successfully this year, provides new opportunities to deepen China-Niue cooperation. China highly appreciates Niue’s long-standing adherence to the one-China principle, and the two sides have offered mutual support on issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns. Besides, the two countries are working together to explore cooperation opportunities under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative.
