Wang Yi Holds Talks with Mongolian Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg

On August 8, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Mongolian Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg in Ulaanbaatar.

Battsetseg highly praised the Chinese side's policy of building relations with neighboring countries based on friendship, good faith, mutual benefit and inclusiveness.  He expressed, Mongolia welcomes and is ready to actively participate in the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, and highly appreciates the Chinese side's contributions to safeguarding international law and international order. The Chinese side stays committed to the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, shoulders responsibilities as a major country, and has provided Mongolia and other developing countries with strong support in the fight against the pandemic. The Mongolian side is so grateful that will  always remember these. Consolidating and developing its relations with China as a friendly neighbor is the top priority in Mongolia's foreign policy, and the Mongolian side is truly satisfied with the close high-level exchanges between the two sides, and is ready to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen strategic communication, foster greater synergy of development strategies, expand cooperation in economy and trade, energy, ports, agriculture, law enforcement, green development, innovation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and other fields, and build more pilot projects, to bring more benefits to the people of the two countries.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Mongolia are good neighbors linked by mountains and rivers, good friends of mutual trust, and good partners of mutual support. The Chinese side always sees China-Mongolia relations as one of the top priorities in neighborly cooperation. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the China-Mongolia comprehensive strategic partnership has been consolidated and deepened, and continuously brought to a new level. The two countries have stood in solidarity against the pandemic, and the touching story of "gifting one another with sheep and tea" has written a new chapter of bilateral friendship. The Chinese side appreciates the Mongolian side for understanding and supporting the Chinese side's legitimate propositions, supports Mongolia in achieving political stability and social harmony, pursuing the development path suited to its national conditions, and making great strides toward the vision of the "New Revival Policy", and will continue to firmly support each other in safeguarding respective core interests.

Wang Yi said that the Chinese side stands ready to foster greater synergy of development strategies with the Mongolian side, especially pushing forward the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and Mongolia's Steppe Road Program, the Global Development Initiative and Mongolia's New Revival Policy, and the "two-step" development strategy and Mongolia's long-term development vision. The two sides should work together to deepen cooperation across the board, and support each other in accelerating development and rejuvenation. The Chinese side will continue to provide the Mongolian side with support in its fight against the pandemic until a final victory over the virus.

The two sides agreed to strengthen exchanges between the two ministries and their departments, and hold diplomatic strategic consultations, and dialogue on policy, consular affairs, and others within the year.

The two sides will hold meetings of the Joint Commission on Economy, Trade, Science and Technology, Joint Committee on Mine and Connectivity Cooperation, and other mechanisms, study and revise the medium- and long-term plans for bilateral economic and trade cooperation, formulate an outline for the development of investment cooperation, steadily push forward key projects, and create an enabling business environment for enterprises from both sides to invest and operate in each other's country.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the fact that land ports have been reopened as many as possible, and will ensure the safe and stable operation of the ports, and improve the throughput of goods and efficiency of customs clearance.

The two sides will strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, cement the public opinion and social foundation for bilateral friendship, and enhance the friendship between the two peoples. The Chinese side will increase scholarships to Mongolian students, and provide the utmost convenience for the Mongolian students to resume their studies in China.

The two sides will actively pursue cooperation in preventing and curbing desertification, and tackling climate change. The Chinese side appreciates the Mongolian side for putting forward the "One Billion Trees" National Movement, will strive to plant 70 billion trees within ten years, and stands ready to work with the Mongolian side to support each other to jointly build a community of life for human beings and Nature.

The two sides will continue to strengthen communication and coordination within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and other frameworks. Wang Yi expressed that the Chinese side supports the Mongolian side in playing a bigger role in international and regional affairs.

After the talks, the two sides signed cooperation documents between the two foreign ministries and witnessed the signing of cooperation documents on railway ports, health and quarantine, among others.
