Briefing by Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei to Chinese and Foreign Media

In the evening of 25 March 2014, Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, held a briefing at the Press Center of the Chinese Delegation for Chinese and foreign media organizations, during which he talked about relevant information on President Xi Jinping's attendance at the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) 2014 and China's achievements in its international cooperation in nuclear security and answered questions. The briefing was also attended by Wang Yiren, Vice-Chairman of China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA).

Miao Wei said that President Xi Jinping attended all the items on the agenda of the NSS and put forward the visionary approach to nuclear security that is sensible, coordinated and balanced, which fully demonstrated China's great attention to and scientific understanding of nuclear security against the new historical background. It also showed China's confidence and resolve in actively tackling nuclear security challenges and China's active attitude to support the international community in nuclear security.

Miao Wei also talked about China's progress since the last NSS in Seoul in enhancing nuclear security across the board. He stressed that the Chinese government has always attached great importance to nuclear security, strictly abided by its international obligations in nuclear security, supported stronger international cooperation in nuclear security and actively provided assistance in nuclear security to other international parties. China would continue to proceed from a responsible attitude to further improve its domestic legal standards, step up capacity building in nuclear security and work more closely with the IAEA to make joint efforts with the international community in a bid to raising the level of nuclear security in the world.

The briefing was attended by more than 30 Chinese and foreign media organizations including People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Central Television, China Radio International, China Daily, Reuters, Associated Press, US National Journal, Kyoto News, Asahi Shimbun, Yomiuri Shimbun, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Channel News Asia and Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau.
