Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu of Turkey

On May 21, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu of Turkey in Shanghai.

Wang Yi expressed, at the just concluded Shanghai Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), China took over smoothly the CICA presidency from Turkey. The Chinese side stands ready to continue to strengthen its coordination and cooperation with the Turkish side within the CICA framework so as to make positive contributions to the building of regional security structure and concept with Asian characteristics. Turkey is a major country in the region and also a country with international influence. It is an important strategic choice for China to strengthen its relations with Turkey. The new Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of China-Turkey relations, and stands ready to enhance strategic communication and cooperation with the Turkish side in various fields and to respect and take care of each other's core concerns, so as to further promote the bilateral relations to a new high.

Davutoğlu spoke highly of the Chinese side on the success of the Shanghai Summit of the CICA. He believed that the CICA will achieve further development during the presidency of China. He expressed that Asia is the center of global development and the driving force for growth. Turkey is located in the western end of Asia while China is located in the eastern end. Therefore, it is historically a must to intensify cooperation, and the bilateral relations enjoy broad prospects. The Turkish side firmly adheres to the One China principle and will continue to work with the Chinese side to combat terrorism of all forms. It is hoped to promote the development of bilateral relations to a higher level through building strategic cooperation mechanism in various aspects.
