On May 22, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with President Mamnoon Hussein of Pakistan in Shanghai.

Xi Jinping expressed, the state leaders of China and Pakistan have maintained close contacts for this year. During President Hussein's visit to China in February, we agreed to strengthen strategic coordination and practical cooperation and to build a China-Pakistan community with a shared destiny. These important consensuses are being gradually implemented, and new progresses have been made constantly in the cooperation between China and Pakistan in various fields.

Xi Jinping stressed, in the next phase, the two sides should maintain frequent exchange of visits and meetings between the state leaders to lead the development of bilateral relations. I am willing to pay a state visit to Pakistan at a time convenient for both sides, and thus to promote bilateral strategic coordination and practical cooperation to a new level. The building of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is an important part of the initiatives of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Silk Road On the Sea of the 21st Century. Therefore we should conduct in-depth research into and make steady headway for the building of the Corridor to guide our cooperation in all fields. At present, we should put emphasis on implementing the projects of the Gwadar Port and the Lahore Rapid Mass Transit Rail. The Chinese side supports the Pakistani side to implement counter-terrorism strategy based on its own national conditions and stands ready to reinforce anti-terrorism security cooperation with the Pakistani side so as to jointly safeguard peace and stability of the two countries and the region.

Hussain congratulated on the success of the Shanghai Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and believed that the Chinese side would promote greater development of the CICA during its presidency. Hussain expressed that Pakistan-China friendship is the cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign relations. Pakistan is grateful for China's long-term support. The Pakistani government and people eagerly look forward to President Xi Jinping's state visit to Pakistan as early as possible. With the smooth progress of building the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor, the Pakistani side is willing to provide facilitation to accelerate the implementation of the relevant projects and hopes the two sides will enhance cooperation in electricity. As "East Turkistan" terrorist forces are the common enemy for both Pakistan and China, Pakistan stands ready to make joint efforts with China to combat the terrorists and will take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan.

The heads of state witnessed together the signing of the Inter-governmental Framework Agreement on the Orange Line of the Lahore Rapid Mass Transit System Project Between China and Pakistan.
