On February 7th, Ambassador Wang Xiaolong sent congratulatory letters to Raelene Castle, the Chief Executive of Sport New Zealand, and Mike Stanley, the President of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, to warmly congratulate Team New Zealand on winning the first gold medal of Winter Olympics at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
In the letters, Ambassador Wang extends his congratulations to Zoi Sadowski-Synnott on her remarkable maneuver in the snowboard slope-style finals, which wins New Zealand’s first ever gold medal at the Winter Olympics, and expresses his special pleasure and pride as Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand. Ambassador Wang assumes this has added another ‘first’ to China-New Zealand relations, and signals good omen for both the start of the Year of the Tiger, and the celebrations of 50th anniversary of the bilateral relations. Ambassador Wang hopes that the two countries will work closely together to create more ‘firsts’ .
Ambassador Wang finally conveys sincere wishes to Team New Zealand to make further efforts and carry on with more medals to reap at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
