Governor-General Cindy Kiro asked Ambassador Wang to convey her best wishes to President Xi Jinping. She accepted Ambassador Wang’s Letter of Credence with pleasure, extended her welcome to Ambassador Wang on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, the New Zealand Government, and the people, and offered to provide further assistance to Ambassador Wang. According to the Governor-General, New Zealand-China relationship is one of New Zealand’s most important and wide ranging relations. Despite the differences in size and worldview, and the geographical distance between our two countries, there are many areas where we can and do work together. We are pleased to see the strong relationship in high level engagement, trade and economic cooperation, climate change and environment, people to people exchanges, sport and other areas, and agree that there is still huge potential for us to develop the relationship and we can go much further. New Zealand and China will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year. We hope to use this year to look back on the past achievements, and to look ahead to identify what we can further achieve together.

Ambassador Wang conveyed the cordial regards of President Xi Jinping to Governor-General Cindy Kiro. Ambassador Wang acknowledged that he was honored to be appointed as Ambassador of China to New Zealand, and would do his utmost in his tenure to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthen the friendship between the two countries and two peoples. According to Ambassador Wang, China attaches great importance to its relationship with New Zealand. Thanks to the concerted efforts , the two sides have maintained the robust momentum of growth in the bilateral relations ever since onset. Last November, President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, during which they agreed to promote the sound and stable development of China-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This year, New Zealand and China will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, surely to create new opportunities for the development of our bilateral cooperation in all areas. China is ready to work together with New Zealand to deepen and broaden our relationship on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits, so as to bring about more tangible benefits for our peoples and contribute to regional and global peace, stability and prosperity.
