The Chinese Embassy Holds a Reception to Welcome Zhejiang Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe

On the evening of August 5, the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand held a reception to welcome the 'Embrace China' Zhejiang Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe. Over 200 people, including representatives from the Chinese community and the other circles in Wellington, attended the reception. Political Counselor Qu Guangzhou and the Director-General of the Department of Cultural Exchange of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (ACFROC), Liu Qi, attended the reception and delivered speeches.

In his speech, Mr. Qu, on behalf of Ambassador Wang Lutong, welcomed the Zhejiang Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe to visit New Zealand. He noted that the performance tour of the 'Embrace China' art troupe to New Zealand not only presents highlight of Yue Opera performing art to the local overseas Chinese, but also makes a positive contribution to the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand and to the promotion of bilateral friendly relations.

Mr.Liu noted that the 'Embrace China' project organized by the ACFROC for the Chinese community overseas has put up nearly 900 performances in over 70 countries by now. The visiting purpose for the Zhejiang Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe to New Zealand this time is to deliver a hometown message and kinship to the overseas Chinese here and in addition, is to showcase the infinite charm of Chinese culture to the local audience through their beautiful melody and performance of Yue opera so as to let audience enjoy the fantastic art of Yue Opera.

After the speeches, the artists of the troupe performed a number of classical Yue opera clips. Their exquisite and amazing performance brought a unique form of artistic enjoyment to the audience.
