Celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Niue was successfully held in Niue

On 16 December 2017, celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Niue was held in Alofi, Niue. Over 250 people attended the event, including Charge d'Affaires Qu Guangzhou from Chinese Embassy in New Zealand (Cook Islands, Niue), Niue Premier Sir Toke Talagi, all the Cabinet Ministers of the Niue Government, all Members of Niue Parliament, leaders of political parties and representatives from the wider community.

On behalf of the Chinese side, Charge d'Affaires Qu read the congratulatory letter from Premier Li Keqiang on the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between China and Niue and delivered a speech. He noted that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Niue unveiled a new chapter in China-Niue relations and friendship between the two peoples. Over the past 10 years, China-Niue relations have achieved sound, steady and positive growth, yielding plenty of fruits. The two countries have made continuous progress in cooperation in such fields as fishery and tourism. Cultural exchanges and people-to-people friendship are also deepening. Recently, the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was successfully held. China's development will not only benefit itself but also bring opportunities to other countries including Niue. China and Niue can work together to maintain the positive momentum of exchanges at all levels and cooperation in all fields, and strengthen bilateral coordination and communication at regional and international multilateral occasions such as Pacific Islands Forum, so that better benefits can be brought to the two peoples.

In his speech, Premier Talagi noted that the establishment of diplomatic relations between Niue and China was an important moment and a landmark in the history of Niue. Niue will firmly adhere to One China Policy and the people of Niue will always cherish the friendship with the Chinese people.

On December 19, Charge d'Affaires Qu and Premier Talagi singed China-Niue Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement in Permier's Office and held a bilateral meeting.
