China optimizes COVID-19 prevention and control measures

China's National Health Commission on Friday 11 November 2022 announced new measures to further optimize COVID-19 prevention and control. Major adjustments are as follows:

1. Quarantine for close contacts shortened from “7+3” to “5+3” (five days of managed quarantine and three days of home quarantine).

2. Secondary close contacts no longer to be identified.

3. Classification of risky areas simplified as high-risk and low-risk only; high risk areas confined to residential units only.

4. People leaving high-risk areas required to spend seven days at home, rather than at a managed quarantine facility.

5. Mass testing discontinued unless necessary.

6. Circuit breaker measures for inbound flights cancelled.

7. Pre-departure COVID-19 test requirement reduced from two tests in 48 hours to one.

8. Cycle threshold values to diagnose COVID in new arrivals set at less than 35.

9. Quarantine for international travelers shortened from “7+3” to “5+3” (five days of managed quarantine and three days of home quarantine).
